Thiruvananthapuram: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized foreign currency worth Rs 20 lakh from a passenger at Trivandrum International Airport on Friday. The passenger was identified as Zainul Abid (25) hailing from Kanhangad.
Abid was scheduled to depart in Air India Express flight IX 539 Thiruvananthapuram -Dubai at 5.45pm. Based on intelligence information, officers intercepted him while he was waiting at the security area after completing emigration procedures.
It was found that foreign currency notes worth Rs 19.80 lakh were stacked in a side compartment of his bag and the section was found to be stitched with rexine fabric.
