Gold seized, three held at Trichy airport

Trichy: Customs authorities have seized Rs 20 lakh worth gold from 3 air passengers who arrived here from Kuala Lumpur at Trichy airport by Air Asia and Malindo Air flights in the last two days.
According to customs officials, they had grown suspicion over the activities of the passengers Mohammed Ibrahim, 57, of Chennai and Shyed Ibramsha, 28, from Ramanathapuram who arrived at the airport.
When the customs officials checked their belongings, they found 160-gram gold worth Rs 4.83 lakh and 100-gram gold worth Rs 3.15 lakh concealed in their baggage. The yellow metal was recovered from them.
The customs also recovered Rs 12 lakh worth gold from a woman passenger during the night hours on Thursday.Girija Malar, 52, a Malaysian resident had arrived at the Trichy airport by Malindo Air. It was found that she had concealed 401 grams gold ornaments in inner wear.
