Chennai: Customs officials on Friday seized 397 gms of gold, worth Rs 12.5 lakhs, from a passenger who arrived at the Chennai International airport from Sharjah via Trivandrum.
An official release here said the passenger, , Shahul Hameed (31), who by Air India Flight was intercepted at the exit of the arrival hall on suspicion that he might be carrying gold as he appeared to be nervous.
On sustained questioning he revealed that he had brought gold bangles and chains and had handed over four bangles and three chains weighing 347grams to a domestic woman passenger and one chain weighing 50gm to another domestic male passenger, who were identified by him later.
Both the domestic passengers had boarded the flight at Trivandrum.
