IndiGo suspends Dubai flight

Mohali: The Chandigarh airport could soon lose its international status. Reason: two airlines have decided to temporarily suspend flight operations.

IndiGo has announced to temporarily suspend its Dubai flight from December 15 to February 15 owing to the absence of advanced instrument landing system, said sources. Regular delays and cancellation of flights during the winter season due to poor visibility and bad weather conditions had perturbed the low-cost airline.

Chandigarh International Airport Limited (CHIAL) spokesperson Deepesh Joshi said, "We have received confirmation from IndiGo about temporary suspension of the Dubai flight during the winter season." A senior official in IndiGo said the flight would resume from February 16 onwards.

Similarly, second international flight operator Air India Express has sought permission to either temporary suspend or change the timing of the Sharjah flight. Sources in Air India confirmed the move. Air India was the first to withdraw the much-sought after Chandigarh-Bangkok flight around three months back owing to non-viability factor, even as the Punjab and Haryana high court had been pulling up the Airports Authority of India for not operating international flights from Chandigarh. The court had already asked the AAI to discontinue the international airport tag.
