3 women with gold paste in rectum held at KIA

Bengaluru: Three women who tried to smuggle ‘gold paste’ concealed in plastic sheaths in their rectum were caught by customs officials at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on Monday night.
They had travelled from Colombo with 496 grams of gold stored in the form of paste to bypass metal detectors. The women, all natives of Tamil Nadu, landed in Bengaluru on a Sri Lankan Airlines flight. The officials, who grew suspicious during passenger profiling, questioned them to ascertain whether they were smuggling gold. Medical examinations revealed that they were carrying gold paste covered in green tapes in their rectum.
In recent months, there’s been a rise in smuggling attempts where suspects hide gold in paste form in their bodies.
