Normal flight operations resume at Srinagar airport

After two days’ disruptions in air traffic due to snow, the normal flight operations resumed at the Srinagar ‘International’ Airport on Sunday.  The snow on the runway and the poor visibility had forced cancellation of flights on Friday and Saturday.
The officials of Airports Authority of India (AAI) said that 18 flights landed at the Srinagar Airport on Sunday while 21 flights took-off.
“The three additional take-offs were by the aircrafts that were parked in the aerodrome since Friday snowfall. The clearing up of the weather in the afternoon helped in smooth operation of the flights and the last flight to depart was IndiGo flight which left Srinagar at 3:50 PM,” said an AAI official.
The maximum number of flight cancellations had taken place on Saturday with 19 flights being unable to operate due to inclement weather.  Only five flights, including 4 of Air India and 1 of GoAir had operated from the airport  after almost 1 feet of accumulated snow was cleared from the run-way.
