Reduce fuel tax at Calicut airport: chamber

The Calicut Chamber of Commerce and Industry has demanded that the State government reduce general sales tax on aviation turbine fuel at the Calicut International Airport. The demand comes in the wake of the government decision some time ago to reduce the tax at the Kannur International Airport from 28% to 1%.
Terming the move as a “discriminatory step”, chamber president Subair Kolakkadan and airport subcommittee chairman K. Moidu said here on Saturday that it would affect domestic services from the Calicut airport. They pointed out that the government should not encourage private capital at the cost of State-owned enterprises. The Calicut airport is owned by the Airports Authority of India and the one at Kannur is run on a public-private partnership model.
