Summit triggers hike in airfares

Ahmedabad: The airfares are as high even for Saturday On the inaugural day of Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ Summit on Friday, airfares to Delhi and Mumbai from Ahmedabad crossed Rs 20,000 for last-minute bookings. Friday saw several delegates and VIP guests from across the world travelling to and fro Ahmedabad. Even on Saturday, when delegates are expected to fly in, the airfares will be expensive.
Jet Airways’ Ahmedabad-Mumbai flight ticket for 9.30 pm was priced at Rs 22,437 on Friday; GoAir flight for 8 pm was priced at Rs 14,000. Other than a few flights, all direct flights to Mumbai were booked when checked at 3 pm for the evening departure. Similarly tickets to Delhi too were high-priced — a direct flight to Delhi at 10 pm costs Rs 20,000. Barring one flight, all the direct flights had been booked and those with 8 to 11 hours of flying time and layovers were as expensive as Rs 50,000.
Travel agent Manish Sharma, who is travelling to Delhi on Saturday, confirmed, “It is for the first time that airfares are so high during Vibrant summit. I booked the flight on Friday for Delhi and got the tickets for Rs 22,000 each.” Flights to Mumbai and Delhi for Saturday also touched Rs 20,000 for all direct flights. Air
India’s flight to Delhi at 6.50 pm is priced at Rs 20,000. An afternoon flight by Jet Airways to Delhi also touched Rs 20,000; even morning flights have touched the same fare.
Flights to Mumbai on Saturday are less in demand compared to Delhi; the fare for morning flight to Mumbai is around Rs 15,000 and same is the tariff for the 6 pm flight.
