Surat airport gets staff for international flight operations

Surat: Customs department has appointed four customs superintendents and four inspectors for customs and immigration-related work at Surat airport, which is all set to operate international flights soon.
Chief commissioner of customs has in individual letters to these officers asked them to immediately assume their duties at Surat airport, official sources said on Friday.
A BSNL team had visited Surat airport for setting up communication and internet linkages for smooth operations of immigration and customs department. The high-speed internet facility and other communication related set-up will be ready within the next few days.

Airport director Sanjay Kumar Panigrahi said, “Things are being monitored directly from Airports Authority of India headquarters in New Delhi. Though we are yet to get final programme details of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Surat airport on January 30th, preparations are going on in full swing for international flight operations from February 16.”
