Technology to cut landing time at Amausi

Lucknow: Time taken by aircraft in take-off and landing at Amausi airport has reduced by up to 15 minutes with the installation of Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control System (A-SMGCS).
Earlier, an air traffic controller used to guide one approaching aircraft at a time, during landing and then helping it manoeuvre through the runway to the parking area.
The job used to consume a lot of time and the approaching aircraft had to remain air borne during the period.
Officials said the new system will have two controllers. “The first controller at air traffic control will guide the plane till touchdown. The second will then guide it on the runway to parking area. In the meantime, the first one will start assisting the next aircraft. The division of work will save up to 15 minutes. The same process will be followed during take-off,” said Sanjay Narain, officer on special duty, Airports Authority of India.
