Traffic congestion outside Srinagar Airport irks flyers

Srinagar: Frequent traffic snarls outside main gate of Srinagar Airport here is compounding problems of flyers.
Locals and tourists have to wait in serpentine queues at drop-gates erected ahead of the main gate before they are let in.
Bilal Ahmad, a frequent flyer says the “commotion” resulting from traffic jams outside the main gate is causing inconvenience to passengers and resulting in wasting of time. “It often takes 30 to 40 to cover distance of few hundred meters outside the main gate,” says Ahmad.
Manzoor Pakhtoon, chairman Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Alliance says traffic rush witnessed often from Humhama police station up to drop-gates resulting in wastage of almost half an hour of each passenger.
“These are embarrassing situations often faced by peoples associated with tourist industry. At times we have to make visitors sprint from drop gates to departure terminal with luggage,” says Pakhtoon.
“It (the road widening outside the main gate) is being considered,” he said, adding implementation of the project would involve relocation of more than 100 shops from the area.
