3 flights cancelled as fog plays havoc

Mohali: Dense fog left passengers in a lurch at the Chandigarh international airport on Monday after three flights were cancelled, one diverted and 15 arrived late.

The Sharjah-bound flight departed late by 60 minutes, whereas Kolkata-bound Indigo flight, Delhi-bound Jet Airways and Mumbai-bound Air India flights were delayed by over 4 hours.

The Air India Express (IX-187) flight arrived on time from Sharjah, but it departed late by an hour at 4.15 pm against its scheduled departure at 3.15 pm. The passengers alleged that the airline operators did not disclose the exact time of delay and departures. It was rush hour at the airport as the departure lounge was jam packed.

The Air India cancelled its morning flight from New Delhi and around 200 flights were stranded till 11am at the New Delhi airport due to dense fog, said reports.

The Air India also cancelled its flight from Kullu due to bad weather. The worst affected was the Air India flight to Pune which departed late by 5:05 hours from Chandigarh at 2.20pm against its scheduled departure at 9.15am. The return flight from Pune departed at 5.42pm and had to be diverted to New Delhi.

Air India airport manager M R Jindal said: “As the watch hours ends at Chandigarh due to the absence of CAT-ILS-III, the flight from Pune to Chandigarh was cancelled and was diverted to New Delhi.”

The first flight to arrive at Chandigarh on Monday was at 12.50pm, whereas normally the first flight arrives at 7am. The Air India flight AI-621 from Mumbai was delayed by 4:20 hours. It was supposed to arrive at 12.50pm against its scheduled arrival time at 8.30am. The flight departed late from Mumbai said the Air India officials.

Jet Airways flight 9W-651 from New Delhi arrived late by 4:06 hours at 2.46pm against its scheduled arrival at 10.40am. Indigo flight from Kolkata arrived 5:50 hours late. It arrived at 1.20pm against its scheduled arrival time at 7.30am.


Similarly, Indigo flight from Srinagar arrived late by 5:47 hours at 4.30 pm against its scheduled arrival time at 10.45am. The flight departed late from Srinagar, said Indigo officials.

GoAir from Mumbai was late by 2:31 hours, Jet Airways from Mumbai was late by 2:35 hours, GoAir from Ahmedabad arrived late by 1:30 hours and Air Asia from Bengaluru was late by 1:56 hours.
