Air-scare: Flight to Del returns mid-air

Hyderabad: Panic prevailed for a while at the Hyderabad airport late on Monday night, after a technical snag on a Vistara flight to New Delhi, UK 870, forced the plane to return to Hyderabad soon after take-off. The A320 aircraft, with close to 130 passengers onboard, initially departed from the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) around 9.15pm (about half an hour behind schedule). However, the flight returned to the Shamshabad runway, at 9.51pm. Sources said that the aircraft was cleared for landing as it had developed a problem in one of its engines.
While engineers were pressed into service to attend to the glitch, fliers were forced to wait for over four hours before they could be accommodated on another plane.
Some passengers shared the incident on social media and said how they were made to wait inside the flight for almost an hour before being allowed to disembark. They, however, thanked the pilot for a safe landing.
“Hyderabad to Delhi flight emergency landing #UK870: Flight was not able to pick up much height; made a circle around Hyderabad and landed in 30 minutes. Seems like engine failure. How are such planes even cleared for takeoff? Second Vistara emergency landing in a day,” posted a flier referring to Vistara’s Chennai-Kolkata flight, UK 733, that earlier in the day experienced a technical malfunction in its right engine during descent. It eventually landed safely at Kolkata.
