Chaos at airport over govt’s call for closure

After several airports in north India were asked for a sudden closure on Wednesday, Pune airport too
witnessed confusion and chaos.
The government called for a shutdown of the airports in Amritsar, Jammu, Srinagar and Leh, Kullu-Manali, Kangra, Shimla, Pathankot and Pithoragarh for three months citing security reasons following the violations by Pakistan air force.
Passengers scheduled to fly from Pune to any of these destinations were stranded after their flights were cancelled and had to be rescheduled. Shalu Gusain, attached with an NGO working for underprivileged children, who was set to travel from Chandigarh to Pune, said, “I fly frequently for my work. This morning I woke up to the news that my flight was cancelled. I had to cancel my journey for the day and reschedule the trip.”
“I received a message from Jet Airways stating that my flight scheduled for March 4 from Pune to
Chandigarh was cancelled. The airlines, however, did not give any reason for the cancellation,” said another Pune-based passenger. No additional information on alternate flight was furnished, leaving him in a fix, he added.
Another passenger, Abhishek Naik, set to travel from Indore to Pune was informed about the cancellation only after leaving for the airport. “I had already left for the airport when I checked the message,” Naik said.
He added that he still wanted to reach the airport and verify the reason and figured that flights inbound from the closed airports could not take off.
Airport director Ajay Kumar said that no outbound flights from Pune were affected as there were no direct flights scheduled to any of the closed airports.
