International flight from Pune on Vistara’s radar

Pune: The city could get a new international flight in the summer schedule starting from March 31 with Vistara envisaging interest, a source in the facility said.

“Vistara is holding talks but more details can be shared only after things take the final shape. International connectivity from the airport needs to increase and last year, after long, we have had a success with Jet Airways opening many destinations for passengers from here towards the east,” an airport official said requesting anonymity.

Vistara neither confirmed nor denied the plan. “We shall share details of our international operations plan when appropriate,” a spokesperson of the airline told TOI.

A source said Vistara held discussions with the AAI officials regarding a direct flight from Pune to Singapore until last year. S K Jain, the former president of Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA), who was the president of MCCIA’s civil aviation committee, said, “They (Vistara) had come down to meet us last year and they were almost set to start a flight from Pune to Singapore. However, Jet Airways announced their flight in the same sector.”
