Gold worth Rs 24L seized from woman at airport


The Air Intelligence unit of the Customs Department on Sunday night seized gold weighing 707 gram from a woman passenger, who arrived at the Biju Patnaik International Airport here from Dubai.

Sources said that the value of the gold seized from the woman was Rs 24 lakh.

The Customs officials seized the gold from a bag carried by the woman who arrived at the airport after boarding an Air India flight from Dubai. The woman hailing from Maharashtra was subsequently detained by the officials and a further investigation was launched, informed sources.

On February 19, gold bars weighing around 1 kg were seized from a woman passenger, who arrived from New Delhi via flight no- AI-077. The Revenue Intelligence officials intercepted her and found eight gold bars concealed inside her personal baggage.
