The CISF on Thursday seized gold bars worth Rs 11.12 lakh concealed in a pair of slippers of a passenger at
Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
According to CISF officials, the seizure took place around 7.20 am on Thursday when CISF Assistant Sub Inspector Vivek Malik noticed the presence of metal in the lower part of the body of a passenger during the pre-embarkatation security check at the security hold area of Terminal 2.
The passenger was asked to remove his slippers and pass them through the X-BIS machine for x-ray screening. During the screening, high density metal images were spotted inside the sole of the slippers the passengers was wearing.
On physical checking, two gold bars weighing 381 grams and worth Rs 11.12 lakh were recovered from Rahat Ali, an Indian national who arrived from Bahrain on Go Air flight No. G8-056 at 4.55 am and was supposed to fly to Delhi by Vistara Airlines flight No. UK-994 around 10.25 am.
“Ali could not produce any valid document for the gold and was handed over to Customs and Air Intelligence Unit offivcials for further action,” said Hemendra Singh, Assistant Inspector General, CISF.
