IndiGo seeks space at Bhopal airport for cargo operation

Bhopal: Buoyed by the exponential growth in air cargo, IndiGo has requested AAI to allot space to commence their cargo operation at Raja Bhoj airport. Several other decisions to improve air cargo was taken during the meeting presided over by Bhopal commissioner Kalpana Shrivastava on Thursday.
With improved air connectivity, the Raja Bhoj airport has witnessed 57% growth in cargo operations between April 2018 and February 2019. Similarly, passenger traffic grew by 10% during the same period.

Shrivastava told TOI that the meeting was aimed at providing an opportunity to industries in Bhopal and adjoining region for sending their products, perishables and valuables through air cargo from Bhopal airport. “Industry representatives sought adequate cargo handling infrastructure at Bhopal. Air India, Jet Airways and Spice Jet are operating cargo movement from Bhopal airport. Indigo has also requested AAI for allotment of space to commence their cargo operation,” said Shrivastava.

She said, “The meeting was an endeavour to bring all stakeholders in the field of cargo business which includes AAI, airlines, industries, MPIDC, chamber of commerce, CII, Support Bhopal for Air connectivity (SBFAC) group on a single platform for greater interaction among them.”
