Rahul Gandhi's Patna-bound business jet suffers snag, returns safely to Delhi

New Delhi: A business jet flying Congress president Rahul Gandhi from Delhi to Patna had to return to the capital minutes after it developed a snag. Pilots of the Hawker 850 XP aircraft (VT-KNB) sought priority return to IGI Airport where emergency arrangements were made for it. The plane landed safely.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered a probe into this snag. A senior official said: “M/s Forum 1 Aviation Hawker 850 XP aircraft VT-KNB returned to Delhi after take off due to a technical snag. The aircraft landed safely in Delhi at 10.20 am. There were 10 person on board including eight passengers and two crew members. DGCA has initiated investigation as per the laid down procedure.”

The Congress president tweeted: “Engine trouble on our flight to Patna today! We’ve been forced to return to Delhi. Today’s meetings in Samastipur (Bihar), Balasore (Orissa) & Sangamner (Maharashta) will run late. Apologies for the inconvenience.”

The website of Delhi-based Forum 1 Aviation describes the Hawker 850 XP as “the most luxurious business jet in Indian sky… The cabin has a unique vertical squared oval design that maximizes head and shoulder room. The cabin is exceptionally quiet with zero vibration, thus providing the desired degree of comfort.
Powered by two Honeywell engines, the aircraft has a “range (of) 1600-1800 nautical miles. This range is enough to fly you anywhere in India and upto Singapore / Middle East countries. The Hawker 800/850 XP flies at speeds averaging 800 kmph with top speed in excess of 900 kmph. The Hawker 800/850 XP can operate from airports having strips as short as 1500m. Hence you can now go to airfields which are not serviced by commercial airlines,” says the charter form’s website.
