Air Asia flight with 179 passengers onboard receives threat call, lands safely at Kolkata airport

New Delhi: Air Asia flight I5-588 was cordoned off on Sunday evening by the Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF) at the Kolkata airport in West Bengal.

The flight was reportedly cordoned off after a threat call was received at the Bengaluru airport.

As many as 179 passengers, who were travelling from West Bengal's Bagdogra to Kolkata, in the flight were de-boarded.

As a precautionary measure, the aircraft has been kept in isolation bay and is being examined by security personnel, reports further said.

In a statement, Air Asia said it has received a call stating that the caller would not be responsible in case anyone was hurt onboard the flight.

"The flight had already departed from Bagdogra for Kolkata by the time the call was received. Air Asia India operations coordinated with Kolkata ATC to affect an immediate landing at Kolkata. After landing, the aircraft was secured with the assistance of airport security staff and all protocols followed."
