Mohali: With a number of chartered planes, ferrying political leaders and celebrities, landing in Chandigarh today, the normal flight operations at the airport in Mohali were disrupted.
According to airport officials, five chartered aircraft arrived here. Among the passengers who came by these flights were Bollywood actor and Congress leader Raj Babbar, national general secretary of the BJP Ram Lal and Union Health Minister JP Nadda.
Prime Minister Nardendra Modi also arrived in Chandigarh today to address a political rally, but he travelled by a special IAF aircraft that operated from the Air Force Station’s technical area, away from the civilian terminal.
Airport sources said eight national and international flights were affected by the heavy air traffic in and out of Chandigarh. These included the two international flights to Dubai and Sharjah from Chandigarh.
The IndiGo flight from Dubai, which was scheduled to arrive here at 10.25 am, reached 35 minutes late. Its departure was also delayed by 15 minutes. The Air India Express flight from Sharjah, that was supposed to arrive here at 2.15 pm, was late by 40 minutes. Its scheduled departure of 3.15 pm was delayed by an hour and 17 minutes.
