Gold worth Rs 41 lakh seized from 4 passengers at Trichy international airport

Trichy: Sleuths from the Air Intelligence Unit of customs department have seized 1.4 kg of gold worth Rs 41 lakh from four passengers at the Trichy international airport.

Customs officials intercepted the passengers and seized gold after they arrived here from Kuala Lumpur and Singapore on Saturday.
One of the air passengers has been identified as Syed Hussain of Sivaganga, who arrived at the Trichy airport from Kuala Lumpur. He attempted to smuggle 210 g of gold worth Rs 6.64 lakh.

Another passenger was identified as Mohammed Musthafa from Chennai also tried to smuggle 211 g of gold worth Rs 6.67 lakh. Both of them concealed the gold in their rectum. They arrived here by Malindo Air, customs authorities said.

Meanwhile, Deepak Kumar, a native of Pudukottai, who arrived here from Singapore by Air India Express, was caught by the customs officials while he attempted to smuggle gold by concealing it as a nut wrench in rod shape. He carried 499 g of gold worth Rs 14.20 lakh.
Likewise, another passenger who has been identified as Prakash from Thanjavur, also arrived here by Air India Express from Singapore and was caught red-handed by the customs authorities while he attempted to smuggle gold weighing 499 g worth Rs 14.20 lakh.
