A lawyer from Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) told a special NIA court on Monday that CCTV footage from the airport is deleted after 30 days unless there is a specific request to preserve it.
MIAL submitted the response after Areeb Majeed, accused of going to Syria to commit acts of terror, sought footage to strengthen his defence that his entry into the country was facilitated by the NIA. While Areeb claimed that he reached India on November 28, 2014 with the NIA's knowledge, the NIA had claimed he was arrested on November 29, 2014 after "sneaking into the country". Areeb was booked for having association with a banned outfit, ISIS. The court, while framing charges, had not found evidence to charge him with being a member of the Islamic State.
