Airports Authority of India observes No Tobacco Day on May 31

Guwahati: The ‘World No-Tobacco Day’ is observed on May 31 every year worldwide. This Day was observed at all the Airports of North East Region under the Airports Authority of India (AAI) on Friday.

The programme started with the pledge taking ceremony to promote Tobacco-free premises and oath to say no to tobacco in daily life. The oath was administered by the officiating Regional Executive Director at Regional HQ, Guwahati and by all the respective Airport Directors (APDs) at their Airports and stations.

In their message to the employees and stakeholders, the APDs highlighted the health and other related risks of consuming tobacco. APDs also held a sensitization session for advocating to reduce the use of tobacco personally and aware of their family members in the same.

As per a press release, the message on the harmful effects of tobacco was displayed through banners and posters at the terminal building of NER airports. The electronic display of the messages ‘premise/ building is tobacco-free’ and ‘you are entering tobacco-free zone’ were also played at all prominent points of the airports.
