‘Extended security hold area to be ready by October’

Patna: The proposed extended security hold area (SHA) to be developed in 1,850 square metre space on the eastern side of the existing terminal building at Jayaprakash Narayan International (JPNI) Airport is targeted to be completed by October or November, airport director Bhupesh CH Negi said on Friday. He said the proposed terminal building will be ready by October 2022.

Bhupesh said the estimated cost for the extension of SHA is around Rs15-16 crore. The existing terminal building in 8,589 square metres area accommodates 4.1 million flyers per annum. However, it was designed to handle only 0.7 million flyers per annum.

During the Airport User’s Consultative Committee (AUCC) meeting conducted as per the Airport Economic Regulatory Authority guidelines to discuss the new terminal building plan, the stakeholders discussed the exceeding passenger traffic, runway constraints, metro connectivity to airport, air cargo facilities and residential block among others.

Negi said entry and exit routes at the terminal building will be changed due to the barricade the areas require for construction of the proposed terminal building and other auxiliary buildings. The new traffic diversion will be implemented from last week of August or first week of September.
