AAI seeks proposal for admn building at airport

Surat: Airports Authority of India (AAI) has asked the authorities of Surat airport to send a proposal for construction of a separate administrative building for smooth airport operations.
Regional Executive Director (RED), AAI’s Western region, G Chandramouli, who visited Surat airport on Friday, asked airport director to submit a proposal for a separate building to house administrative and technical departments of the airport.

The TOI had highlighted in its report dated January 24, 2019 an urgent need to have a separate administrative building for technical and administrative staff, including the airport director, in the airport premises.

Surat airport having over 110 staff and passenger traffic of 1.5 lakh per month doesn’t have a separate administrative block for the airport director and staff. Since last many years, the administrative block is being operated from the technical building housing ATC tower, control room, CNS server room, anti-hijacking room etc.

At present, a lone unarmed state police personnel is deployed at the entry gate of the building for noting down the names and numbers of visitors.

Interestingly, access to the ATC tower, considered heart of any airport, is very easy for a visitor here. An elevator is right in front corner of the technical block, which leads to upper floors, including the ATC tower, where movement of aircraft is monitored by staff members.
