A’bad-Delhi flight returns soon after take-off

Ahmedabad: Passengers aboard Air India flight AI-018 from Ahmedabad to Delhi had a close shave on Saturday as a bird strike forced the flight to return to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport minutes after take-off. While all passengers were deplaned safely, many ended up missing their connecting flights to international destinations.
The plane departed from Ahmedabad airport at 7.10am at its scheduled time with 97 passengers and was expected to arrive at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi at 8.45am.
A passenger, Siddharth Mehta, was scheduled to travel to Shanghai for a business trip. “The airline refused to make arrangements for an alternate flight which means I will end up missing my flight to Shanghai. We have been seeking alternate arrangement but so far there has been no concrete response from the airline,” said Mehta.
Yet another passenger, had a connecting flight to Frankfurt, Germany, on Saturday afternoon.
“My connecting flight to Frankfurt was scheduled around 1.30pm. There was enough time gap between the two flights and thus, I was less worried. However, as soon as we landed back to Ahmedabad airport, we were asked to go to the reservation counter wherein we would be informed about the alternate travel arrangement. However, it has been close to three hours since I have been waiting at the Ahmedabad airport and yet, no alternate flight has been arranged,” said Dr Pranjul Shah, who was aboard the flight.
