Compensation for airport land nears 50% mark

Greater Noida: The compensation process for almost half the land required for the first phase of the Jewar airport project has been completed.
Jewar tehsildar Rakesh Jayant said the administration had already processed 4,332 files and disbursed Rs 1,376 crore for 556 hectares. Over 1,200 hectares are supposed to be acquired in six villages — Dayanatpur, Rohi, Kishorepur, Parohi, Ranehra and Banwariwas — in the first phase.

“A total of 4,332 files have been cleared till July 17 from the six villages,” said Jayant.

According to the tehsildar, 80% of the land would be acquired under the first phase by August 31.

For the development of airport, companies like GMR group (developers of Delhi’s IGI Airport), Adani Group, Reliance, MIAL (Mumbai International Airport Limited), BIAL (Bangalore International Airport Limited), Airports Authority of India (AAI), ADP Hong Kong, Zurich Airport, L&T, Global Infrastructure and Sterlite Power Grid, among others, have either expressed interest or raised queries.

Jayant said on Friday they could not clear about 500 files due to objections or other land issues. These include 103 files pending due to objections raised by owners, 170 files due to queries related to the total number of roads, barren plots etc. and 125 files because of generic reasons. “Together, the number of files comes to 512, which relate to 114 hectares. At least 80% of the acquisition process would be completed before August 31,” said Jayant.

Officials said a 50.2 hectare plot had been identified near Jewar-Banger on Aligarh road for families to be relocated. The plot is around 50-100 metres from Yamuna Expressway.

District magistrate BN Singh said all facilities related to documentation work, such as photocopy machines and stamp papers, have been arranged for.
