International airport bhoomi puja likely next month, says Gadkari

Nagpur: The bhoomi puja for the new Nagpur International Airport is likely to be held next month as all approval-related formalities will be wrapped up soon, according to Union minister and city MP Nitin Gadkari. Speaking on Saturday at the platinum jubilee celebrations of Nag Vidarbha Chamber of Commerce (NVCC), he said the airport will be one of the major projects in the already long list of infrastructure development in city.
“The cabinet note for it (new airport) has already come, I checked it yesterday. In the next 15 days, all formalities will be completed and then the bhoomi puja can take place,” said Gadkari.

The minister added that the international airport will be one of the best in the world and the plan is to provide air connectivity to both east and west of India. “We definitely want a connection to Dubai as it will facilitate travel to Europe and US. In the east, we would like to connect to Singapore so that the entire southeast Asia becomes accessible,” said Gadkari.

Talking about friction between local authorities and traders over various issues, Gadkari said that he has already initiated talks between the two stakeholders to find a resolution. “Lot of traders are complaining about high rent being charged by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation. But we also need to check how many are actually paying rent. I am going to suggest to NMC that a software should be prepared where data of all property holders is stored. Then a list should be made of all the defaulters and published in newspapers,” said Gadkari.
