Lucknow: It was a scary Monday night for over 300 passengers onboard two aircraft — Delhi-Lucknow IndiGo airlines and the Mumbai-Delhi Vistara flight that was diverted multiple times — before landing in Lucknow. Passengers were on the edge with their seat belts fastened and a prayer on their lips. As the UK-944 Vistara flight wobbled in face of strong winds and hovered over three airports for hours, some passengers panicked and screamed, while others invoked God. Scared passengers after de-boarding at Amausi airport said, they wouldn’t take air route again.
After the diverted Mumbai-Delhi Vistara flight landed in Lucknow, many shell-shocked passengers refused to board the plane to Delhi post-midnight. One of the flyers, Prateek Patel, said, “When the diverted flight touched down at Lucknow, I decided to take the train instead of boarding the plane to Delhi. Despite fastening seat belts, we were wobbling in the sky. After the flight reached Lucknow after multiple diversions, we were happy to be alive. It was a horrifying experience. Everyone was crying inside the plane.”
Rashmi Soni, public relations officer, Vistara, said, “There were multiple diversions due to bad weather and the flight landed on low fuel in Lucknow. But passengers were safe.”
Passengers onboard the Delhi-Lucknow 6E-959 IndiGo flight faced similar trauma after takeoff from IGI airport. The plane was wobbly while hovering over Amausi for almost 20 minutes. Scared passengers began crying and the IndiGo pilot informed ATC Lucknow about strong winds. ATC directed the pilot to hover till wind velocity dipped.
