Two detained at Jaipur airport for carrying 400gm gold

Jaipur: The Jaipur customs department on Sunday detained two men at the airport here for carrying 400gm of gold illegally. The two were had arrived here from Dubai and were carrying gold in a paste form.
The two men were travelling in a SpiceJet flight which landed at the Jaipur International Airport on Sunday. A customs department official told TOI, “Each was carrying approximately 200gm of gold in paste form. The gold was hidden in their belts between a layer of cloth. They have been detained and we are questioning them further.”
The customs department refused to divulge the identities of the two detained since the matter is still under investigation though they did claim that the two are not from Jaipur. The customs department at the city airport has been catching a lot of people, especially those travelling from Thailand and Dubai for smuggling gold. The official added, “Though we have an annual report on quantity of gold seized, in this financial year,about 7kg of gold which was brought into the country illegally, has been seized.”
