Bomb threat exercise at Kol airport

Kolkata: The Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) was convened at Kolkata airport on Wednesday morning and passengers were evacuated from a section of the domestic terminal to check the robustness of the bomb threat contingency plan.
The 45-minute operation involved personnel from NSG, CISF, Bidhannagar Police, and officials from Bureau of Civil Aviation Secuity, AAI, various airlines and the airport’s fire and medical departments.
A call to the airport manager’s office set the operation in motion. The caller claimed a black laptop bag, left on the staircase near gate 1A (used to transit from arrival to departure), contained an explosive. CISF was informed and the area cordoned off. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) arrived with sniffer dogs, assessed the threat and found it credible. BTAC was convened and a decision taken to deploy a mini-remote operations vehicle (MROV) to remove the explosive.
