AAI flies poor children to Porbandar and back

Ahmedabad: Taking a flight is probably a dream nurtured by poor children, but this dream came true for 30 such children in the city, through an initiative of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) on Tuesday. AAI and a private airline that operates within the state arranged a flight from Ahmedabad to Porbandar for these 30 kids from the city, on Tuesday.

“The Ahmedabad collector supported the initiative, taken to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The children will be given a guided tour of the birthplace of the Father of the Nation. They visited Kirti Mandir and with other museums in the city,” said Manoj Gangal, director of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) airport.

The airline, TruJet, along with the AAI funded the entire tour along with lodging and boarding of the children, who returned to Ahmedabad on Wednesday. “The initiative is also in line with the vision of the Government of India i.e. Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN),” Gangal added.
