By December 5, 90 flights can take off in an hour from Kempegowda

Once the second runway of the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) that is scheduled to open on December 5 is operational, the airport will become the first in India to have independent parallel runways.
 A video released by the operators of the airport, Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) that shows the successful completion of the validation flights, states that with the commissioning of the second runway, the airport will become the first in India to have independent parallel runways It also states that once the runway becomes operational, the two runways together will progressively able to handle up to 90 flights per hour or a take- off and landing every 40 seconds.
 Last week, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) had issued an Aeronautical Information Publication Supplement to inform the stakeholders about the commissioning of the runway The Aeronautical Information Publication Supplement informed the stakeholders about the renaming of the existing RWY 09/27 to RWY 09L/27R, besides naming the second runway that will be located south of the existing runway as RWY 09R/27L.
