Gold seized from two passengers at Madurai airport

Madurai: Customs officials at Madurai airport seized gold biscuits weighing 2,100 gram, worth Rs 81 lakh, from a Trichy man on Tuesday.
The man identified as A Thesdhehir, 47, of Trichy has been arrested.
The air intelligence unit, led by assistant commissioner A Venkadesh Babu, was checking for suspicious movements of passengers, who alighted from Air India Express flight that landed in Madurai from Singapore.
On noticing suspicious movement, the team picked up Thesdhehir and took him to a separate place, where an inquiry was conducted. The officials also checked the LED rechargeable light that he had brought with him since it was unusually heavy. When they opened it, they found 21 gold biscuits. The accused was arrested under the customs Act 1962.
