Winter schedule likely by month-end: Patna Airport director

Patna: A new schedule for the operation of flights from the Jayaprakash Narayan International (JPNI) Airport during the winter season is likely to come up by the end of October.
According to airport director Bhupesh C H Negi, all the airlines are expected to submit their respective schedules to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) by next week. “We will finalise the winter schedule by October-end and make necessary arrangements as per the standard operating procedure of the AAI,” he told this newspaper on Monday.

Executives of different airlines claimed that their winter schedules were being prepared and would be submitted to the AAI soon.

In order to ensure smooth flight operations in foggy conditions, two additional approach lights had been installed on Peer Ali Path and two inside the Patna zoo in December last. The total length of the approach lighting system (ALS) is 420 metres now.

“Recently, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation had given its nod for extension of the system up to 720 metres. Works in this regard have begun and additional approach lights are likely to be functional by next year,” Negi said.
Besides, steps are being taken for extension of the security hold area (SHA) as well as introduction of more X-ray machines and check-in counters by December. A small restaurant will also come up on the first floor at the airport .
