Surat: Like airports in metro cities, Surat international airport too will have prepaid taxi service to facilitate travel of passengers shortly. Airports Authority of India (AAI) has written to city police to approve prepaid taxi service at the airport.
According to latest data of AAI, about 1.20 lakh passengers travelled to and from Surat airport to domestic and international destinations in October. The total number of aircraft movements recorded was 1,457 in October alone.
Sources said more than 4,000 passengers have been travelling to and from Surat airport to various destinations every day. Majority of outstation passengers arriving in the city are facing problems due to non-availability of taxi service.
Official sources said transportation is the biggest stumbling block at Surat airport. Recently, Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) extended BRTS services to the airport, but increase in flight frequency is not matching with bus timings.
