Flights to Kolkata hit after airport closed due to Cyclone Bulbul

Chennai: It may be better to avoid flights to Kolkata on Sunday as there may be delays and disruptions as a fallout of airport closure in the wake of Cyclone Bulbul.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has closed Kolkata airport from 6pm on Saturday to 6am on Sunday and informed airlines to reschedule flights well in advance. This has hit flights from Chennai from Saturday afternoon. Since flight schedules are affected in Kolkata, planes from Chennai to Indore and Bhubaneswar were also delayed as a cascading effect.
The storm is expected to weaken by morning but will cause heavy rain. IndiGo airlines, SpiceJet, AirAsia and Air India have issued advisory to passengers offering refunds for cancellations since Friday. The evening and night flights to Kolkata were cancelled from Chennai. The airlines are giving passengers another date to travel or get refund.
Since Chennai-Kolkata is a high-demand and expensive route the disruption due to the cyclone has hit passengers who have booked well in advance. Though there were messages and alerts on social media, passengers who had to fly to international destinations via Kolkata had a difficult time. IndiGo in its advisory stated that passengers should see websites and mobile app for real time flight updates.
