Gau-Dmu flight services from Dec 7

Dimapur: In a boost to state and regional air connectivity under UDAN scheme, Civil Aviation ministry has announced flight services from Guwahati to Dimapur and Imphal from December 7, 2019.

Sources informed Nagaland Post that Air India will be operating in these three sectors.

In August last, Union Civil Aviation minister, Hardeep Singh Puri had assured to look into Nagaland Governor, R.N. Ravi’s request to operationalize air services in these sectors, keeping in mind the regional connectivity of North Eastern states.

Ravi had also requested the minister to help early operationalization of Dimapur–Guwahati, Dimapur-Imphal and Dimapur-Dibrugarh air services under Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) scheme.

Accordingly, the minister directed the concerned officials of the ministry and airlines and assured the Governor to begin flight services in these sectors.

As published in the August 30, 2019 editorial column of this newspaper, it was pointed out that Dimapur airport is among the oldest in the region though civil air services started operation since the mid-seventies when certain states in the region such as Mizoram, Manipur and Meghalaya were not air-linked by regular Indian Airlines service.
