National consumer body slams airlines’ deceit

Ahmedabad: The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has deplored the poor customer care services provided by aviation companies.
It also said that airlines lure passengers with misleading offers.

The NCDRC pulled up service providers in a recent order with which it enhanced compensation for some senior citizens who had claimed to have faced harassment and inconvenience due to flight delay at the Ahmedabad airport in 2013.

They complained that they were not offered refreshments or even water after their flight was delayed for nearly four hours.

“Air travel is not always the smooth-sailing experience everyone would like,” the commission said. “Most customers have had a bad experience and frequently faced difficulties while accessing customer care services. The customer/traveller is met with either unresponsive staff or is just kept waiting with unpleasant tunes!”

The commission’s order further read, “Many face difficulties while booking tickets. The websites of airline companies lure travellers with misleading offers, low fares/pricing etc but show a sudden surge while completing the process of online ticket booking.”
