Non-availability of crew delays Air India’s Kochi–Jeddah fligh

Kochi/Jeddah: Air India’s Kochi–Jeddah flight (AI 963) that was scheduled to leave from Kochi on Friday was delayed by more than 12 hours, reportedly over non-availability of cabin crew.
The flight, which was scheduled to take off from Kochi at 6.20pm and expected to land at Jeddah King Abdul Azeez International airport at 9.15am on Saturday, left Kochi on Monday at 6.15am and reached Jeddah at 9pm. 249 passengers, including 105 Umrah pilgrims, had a tough time as many complained that the airline did not intimate them about the delay. The incident led to minor protest by the passengers at the AI check-in counter at the airport.
Presently, AI is not operating Thiruvananthapuram or Kozhikode flights. Passengers, mostly from the Malabar region, reported at the Kochi airport on Saturday morning. The pilgrims hailed from Kasaragod, Kannur and Malappuram districts. All the passengers reported for boarding around 11am on Saturday, four hours ahead of the scheduled reporting time. AI staff informed them about the cancellation of Saturday’s flight due to technical reasons.
