Winter blackout: No flight from Chandigarh to Dubai from next month

Chandigarh: City airport is on the brink of losing its international status as now Indigo has also announced to discontinue its Dubai flight from December 14. This leaves the airport with lone Sharjah flight as the international connection.

It is bad news for tourists planning to fly to Dubai as Indigo will stop the flight from December 14 to February 15, 2020. The previous year, Air India Express had pulled out of Bangkok sector due to poor flight occupancy rate. Earlier, Indigo had discontinued its Dubai flight in September last year.

Sources in Indigo said the reason for discontinuation was non-viability due to frequent disruptions in winter and the decision was taken in November 13 review meeting held in Delhi. The Indigo airport manager said, “The orders have been received for flight discontinuation and I do not know the reasons.”

Sources in Indigo, New Delhi, said there were frequent suspensions and delays due to bad weather conditions at Chandigarh airport during winter months and the flights had to be diverted to Delhi, which caused huge loses.

The airport handles nearly 32 commercial flights daily. It is now left with a single international connectivity to Sharjah by Air India Express, a subsidiary of Air India.
