Air India cancels four Dubai-bound flights, diverts one due to heavy rain

India’s national carrier Air India cancelled four of its Dubai flights from various cities in India and diverted one to Al Maktoum due to heavy rain and flooding at Dubai airport, the airline spokesperson has said.

“While Air India’s Dubai flight from Chennai has landed at the Dubai airport on Saturday, it took nearly 5 hours for the plane to reach its parking bay,” the Air India spokesperson told Arabian Business.

Air India’s Dubai flight from Calicut airport in Kerala (AI 937) was diverted to Al Maktoum airport due to flooding on the runway.
“This plane is AOG (aircraft on ground) now there,” the Air India spokesperson added.

IndiGo and SpiceJet were not immediately available for comment on the status of their flights to Dubai or Abu Dhabi.

Travel industry sources said the sudden cancellation of flights to Dubai upset the travel plans of thousands of Indian travellers, especially this being the new year busy season when many NRIs (non-resident Indians) were returning to their destinations the UK, US and Europe after visiting India during Christmas/New Year holidays.
