Flier from Muscat held with 2kg gold

Ahmedabad: In another case of gold smuggling by air, Ahmedabad customs nabbed a flier with smuggled gold at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) airport in the wee hours of Monday. Airport sources confirmed that a male flier was found to be in possession of 2kg of gold.
“The flier arrived from Muscat early on Monday morning. Officials of the air intelligence unit (AIU) found the passenger’s movements and body language suspicious and based on spot intelligence, examined the passenger,” said a top source.

With the gold price in Ahmedabad at Rs 40,435 per 10g on Tuesday, the value of the seized gold was Rs 80.87 lakh. Sources said the passenger was carrying the gold as a belt under his trousers. He was immediately detained and handed over to customs.

Currently, the passenger is being interrogated and further probe is under way.
