Coronavirus: Mumbai airport to screen flyers from Italy and Iran

New Delhi: With coronavirus epidemic spreading, Mumbai airport on Wednesday said it will screen passengers arriving from Italy and Iran also. India has advised its citizens to “refrain from non-essential travel to Korea, Iran and Italy” and people coming from these countries “or having such travel history since February 10, 2020, may be quarantined for 14 days on arrival to India,” the government said in a statement on Wednesday “in view of the evolving situation related to COVID-19 being reported from other countries”.
Mumbai Airport tweeted: “As per the latest directives laid down by the government of India, passengers arriving from Iran and Italy will also be screened at the airport in addition to those arriving from Japan, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and Nepal.”
Vistara has cancelled over 50 flights to Bangkok and Singapore in March, 2020, due to the coronavirus outbreak that has reduced demand for travel to southeast Asia. Air India and Singapore Airlines have already enforced cuts and GoAir will stop flights there.
“Vistara has made temporary adjustments to selected services to and from Bangkok and Singapore in March 2020, in response to weak demand due to the Covid-19 outbreak. As a result, 20 flights between Delhi and Bangkok; 26 flights between Mumbai and Singapore; and 8 flights between Delhi and Singapore will be cancelled in March 2020,” Vistara said in a statement, adding, “Customers booked on any of the cancelled flights can either opt for a full refund (no cancellation fee) or change to alternatives dates free of cost (no reissuance fee).”
