Chennai: DMK Lok Sabha member Dayanidhi Maran has drawn the attention of Union civil aviation minister Hardeep Singh Puri to congestion prevailing at Chennai airport which makes passengers wait for long.
"I would like to bring to your attention the terrible passenger congestion at the Chennai airport and how passengers are suffering because of the long periods they have to wait during security checks at both domestic and international terminals. Everyday, nearly 40,000 passengers travel through the airport and most of them are made to wait for long hours, especially during peak hours," Maran wrote in a letter to the civil aviation minister.
Many of the passengers had taken to social media in the past and posted pictures of serpentine queues at the airport.
Airport Authority of India officials had said that the terminal capacity was saturated and that they were helpless until the long pending phase II modernisation work was completed and the new integrated terminal was functional, he said.
