DRI officials seizes 3,099 gms of Gold worth Rs 1.38 cr ; 4 held

Hyderabad: The sleuths of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Hyderabad
Zonal Unit have arrested four persons and seized 3,099 grams of gold worth about 1.38 crore
from their possession.
Acting on the basis of specific intelligence that four persons travelling to Hyderabad by road
along the Bangalore-Hyderabad Highway would be carrying smuggled gold of foreign-origin,
officers of DRI, Hyderabad Zonal Unit launched an operation on Monday and mounted
surveillance at Raikal Toll Plaza, situated at Chilkamarri, on the outskirts of Hyderabad city, a
DRI statement here said on Tuesday.
They intercepted one person travelling by a Private Bus at the Toll Plaza. The officers then laid in
wait and subsequently intercepted three more persons, who were travelling by a Private Cab.
The four persons were found to be carrying a total of 31 pieces of foreign-origin gold bars of 999
purity, totally weighing 3099 grams and valued at Rs 1.38 crore.
The smuggled gold of foreign-origin was being carried without any documents, and the four
persons failed to prove licit import of the gold bars.
