Guwahati flight makes emergency landing in Kolkata after false alarm

Kolkata: A SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to Guwahati made a priority landing in Kolkata around 9am on Wednesday after the pilot suspected fuel leakage in the aircraft. However, inspection later revealed it was a water leak that had triggered the false alarm.
The flight with 189 passengers and crew was flying around 100km north-west of Jamshedpur when the pilot contacted the air traffic control at Kolkata airport to report the suspected fuel leakage. The fuel caution light in the cockpit panel had suddenly started flashing, pointing to a possible problem in the fuel tank. The captain had loaded adequate fuel in the aircraft, but with still some distance to go for Guwahati, the captain did not take a chance. Kolkata being the closest airport, he decided to divert there and requested a priority landing.
The controller in Kolkata guided the plane in, clearing the way for the flight to arrive at the shortest possible time. The aircraft touched down at 8.58pm. However, engineers could not find any problem after inspection and declared it a false alarm.
