Airlines carry on with bookings, but stay hesitant about refunds

With the lockdown extended, all flight operations -- both domestic and international -- stand suspended till May 3.
However, a few private airlines continue to offer bookings for travel beyond May 3.
A few hours after the extension of the lockdown was announced by the Prime Minister in his televised address, private carriers on Tuesday announced that they will resume domestic operations in a phased manner from May 4.
But it is still not certain if airlines would be allowed to fly after May 4, just like it was in the case of April 14, the original date set for lifting the lockdown period.
Despite there being an uncertainty over the lifting of the restrictions on air travel from April 15 onwards, private airlines undertook bookings for travel on domestic flights from April 15. Only Air India was not taking any bookings till April 30.
Now with the lockdown extendedm many passengers who had booked their tickets are approaching the airlines to refund their money against the cancelled flights.
However, the airlines are not refunding the money and have communicated to their customers that they are in the process of cancelling reservations and that they are being offered credit for future travel.
“We are in the process of cancelling the reservations. Your ticket amount is protected in the form of a credit shell in the PNR, which will be shared with you in the next 5-7 days. The credit shell can be utilised within one year from the issued date, for the same passenger(s). You can choose any travel date as per your convenience,” an Indigo advisor stated. ther private airlines like SpiceJet and GoAir have stated the same.
