Air India to operate special domestic flights from May 19-June 2 to move stranded passengers

New Delhi: National carrier Air India will reportedly operate special domestic flights from different cities between May 19 and June 2 to help passengers reach home stranded in several parts of the country amid the coronavirus-induced countrywide lockdown.

The flights were mostly operated from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Delhi will operate maximum number of 173 flights, followed by Mumbai (40), Hyderabad (25) and Kochi (12). On May 19, the airline has scheduled a single flight to Chennai from Kochi, according to a report in Times of India.

Air India will operate flights from Delhi to Jaipur, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Amritsar, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Gaya, Vijayawada, Lucknow and a few other cities. Flights from Mumbai will be operated to Visakhapatnam, Kochi, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Vijayawada. Also, the flights will be operated from Hyderabad to Mumbai, Delhi and back. Bengaluru will have flight services to Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad and an incoming flight from Bhubaneswar.

Furthermore, in the second phase of Vande Bharat Mission, the airline is actively considering to operate 149 repatriation flights to 31 countries between May 16 and May 22.
